Below are the documented pages from my first Vis Com & Typography assignment; the dot book, which I titled Above and Under the Skin. The title page must have come off in the grading process because it is lost and was not returned to me with my book. I was very pleased with the effect on the overall assignment. I finally got it documented, after about a month and a half, so take a look and enjoy.

Narrative in Motion
This quick animation was produced in Adobe Flash CS4. This is the first animation I have ever done, and practically the first time I have ever opened Flash. My narrative started off by picking a letter and coming up with words that started with this letter. If it isn't obvious in the animation, my letter is "e" and my words are "earth" and "eclipse". I used these two words to creative a narrative of how the earth, sun, and moon, are effected by the crossing of each other's paths.

Image integration brought a narrative to my animation and sequences. Some of the challenges of using imagery offline is the size of the images as well as the quality. It is hard, sometimes, to find the perfect image, at the right size and resolution. I didn't have too much trouble because both the earth, and an eclipse can not so easily be captured with just an everyday point and shoot camera

Cropped compositions with image integration
Rotation, cropping and scale were used in my animations at a slower rate to emphasize the movement in space and the feeling of being weightless. At the end of the animation there is an abrupt shake that is directed to emphasize the chaos of space as well as the balance.

Theme & Words
Our next project in Visual Communication I, taught by Jamie Gray, will consist/ has consisted of making a mindmap to narrow down subject matter and a list of words for the sophomore's next project, which is a book, displaying 9 of the words that we have come up with.
My topic is traits and feelings of those physically deformed. I googled the topic to do a little more research and the things I was seeing and discussion groups I was finding were quite sad. The words I came up with were of the following:
- singled out
- uneven
- warped
- banished
- imperfect
- disparate
- detest
- disfigured
- emaciated
- contract
- hysteria
- distress
- tension
- minute
- protrude
- attached
- mangled
- oversized
- partnerless
- uncomfortable
- isolated
- deviant
- displeasing
- perturbed
- inferior
Here is one of the images I was looking at that some of these words spawned from:
All of the words above are words that aren't the norm. They make you think the layout of the following words would be something disturbing to look at. My goal is to take these "ugly" words and "sad" words and turn them into something beautiful, something even greater than what it's like to be normal in today's society. Beauty is either harder or easier to see in things that are different. This project will put me to the test.
